The Terrible Truth

All facts below are from within the VR experience, and is back up by data. Read more in the Playbook here

  • The fashion industry accounts for up to 8% of global carbon emissions. We can help reduce the garment industry’s carbon footprint by making thoughtful purchasing choices.

  • Cotton farming is responsible for around 16% of the world’s use of insecticides and 4% of fertilizers. If you buy garments sourced from sustainable materials, you can help protect essential waterways that communities rely on.

  • Producing a pair of jeans can use 10,000 liters of water. It would take 10 years for one person to drink that amount. We need to treat water as a very precious resource.

  • Garment workers receive minimum wages – often less than 1% share of the market price for a standard T-shirt. Support fair trade, buy carefully and selectively and do research on the brand to see where and how the garment was made.

  • The average consumer is now purchasing 60% more clothing than in the 2000’s. Think before buying new clothes. Try upcycling or shopping for secondhand items instead

  • 85% of textiles in the USA alone are sent to landfills or incinerators, 60% within a year of being made. Every second, one garbage truck full of clothes is burned or dumped. Reduce waste whenever possible

  • It is estimated that $500 billion can be saved every year if we change our relationship with clothes. Our preoccupation with instant gratification and thoughtless disposal cannot continue. We need to care more, understand more, make better choices and take action.

  • The fashion industry accounts for up to 8% of global carbon emissions. We can help reduce the garment industry’s carbon footprint by making thoughtful purchasing choices.
